Conservative vs. Liberal Beliefs (Affirmative Action)

I will be posting weekly on multiple topics for what I think is the beliefs of each side; this week the topic will be affirmative action, however before I move forward let us define both beliefs

Conservative -

believe in personal responsibility, limited government, free markets, individual liberty, traditional American values and a strong national defense. Believe the role of government should be to provide people the freedom necessary to pursue their own goals.

Conservative policies generally emphasize empowerment of the individual to solve problems.

(If you read our constitution you might understand why we have individuals who call themselves conservatives, all others parties want to change the constitution to best fit their needs. Conservatives simply want to enforce the greatest document known to mankind, religion aside.)

Liberals -

Believe in governmental action to achieve equal opportunity and equality for all, and that it is the duty of the State to alleviate social ills and to protect civil liberties and individual and human rights. Believe the role of the government should be to guarantee that no one is in need. Believe that people are basically good.

Liberal policies generally emphasize the need for the government to solve people's problems.

(Really!! we need the government to tell us the we have a to many fat people and we should eat healthier, or should they tells when I should or should not have children, maybe they should also tell us what jobs we will be doing also; sounds a lot like socialism to me, however that is just my opinion.)

Now for my personal view on what both sides think of Affirmative Action:

Conservative thoughts:

People should be admitted to schools and hired for jobs based on their ability. It is unfair to use race as a factor in the selection process. Reverse-discrimination is not a solution for racism.

(I have question for those who believe that affirmative action is right, if you are the owner of a business and you have to hire for a new position, but to fill a quota you have to hire someone who is less qulified, however the candidate you would like to hire is 10 times more qualified for the position who would you rather hire?)

Liberal beliefs :

Due to prevalent racism in the past, minorities were deprived of the same education and employment opportunities as whites. We need to make up for that.

Support affirmative action based on the belief that America is still a racist society. Minorities still lag behind whites in all statistical measurements of success. Also, the presence of minorities creates diversity.

(We have a Black President, get real if you think racism is still a major problem)

  1. One quick comment cause I haven't read all this in detail....

You saying Black President means no racism makes about as much sense as saying America is one of the wealthiest nations on the planet - get real if you think poverty is still a major problem or get real if people go hungry here. Nice sound bite, doesn't really work in practice.

  2. The left spin will always be about how there is still a major race issue in the US, it helps feed their agenda, when you truly look at it, in the professional world it is a mute point. We have a Indian Governor in Louisiana, and countless black politicians. There will always be a little racism here and there but nothing on a serious level

  3. Affirmative action is to level a mountain so no one needs to try climbing it first in order to succeed.

Racism will end when people quit blaming their failure on someone elses skin color.
